JoAnn has taught basketry for over 35 years. She travels nationally to teach her original black ash splint basketry designs at fiber and basket conventions, and for guilds, schools and private groups. She supplies the splint, hardwood handles and rims, and pine molds, as well as the tools and written reference material needed to complete each basket. Her designs are based on traditional Shaker and utilitarian New England splint baskets. They are described as primarily traditional, with a contemporary touch.  Workshop projects can be found in the online catalog.

Formally an elementary school teacher, JoAnn’s patient teaching style creates a relaxed atmosphere and an enjoyable experience. She recognizes each student’s personal goals in order to foster individual learning and prides herself on the fact that each student leaves her class with a completed project. Her workshops range from beginning weaving levels to challenging projects for advanced basketmakers.

JoAnn is also available for presentations and lectures on black ash splint basketmaking and its history.
